The specifications between the three high-end devices are largely similar, with Samsung taking out a large number to differentiate itself. Large batteries, more RAM, and high-resolution cameras are the norm for Android's flagship products, but the Galaxy S20 + and Galaxy S20 Ultra take it to a new level. The iPhone 11 Pro Max has a matrix of three sensors on the back of the phone and a TrueDepth camera system on the front. All cameras have 12MP sensors that support 4K HDR video and 1080p slow motion video. The Samsung Galaxy S20 + has four sensors on the back of the phone and a single camera on the front. The rear sensors consist of three cameras and a time-of-flight sensor. The standard wide-angle camera is expanded to up to 108 MP. At first glance, this may seem like a mistake or a typo, but Samsung assures us that it's a real 108MP sensor. However, there is a warning, so no real 108MP photos are taken, at least not by default. Samsung has implemented a newer technology called "pixel grouping" that essentially combines pixels when taking a photo.

Because this device uses an aspect ratio of 9 to 1 pixels, it ends up with a 12 MP photo, but due to the process, it ends up with a more detailed and better-lit photo. Some practical tests are required to determine if this leads to noticeable quality improvements or if it is just another set of large numbers.

The front camera of the Galaxy S20 Ultra also shows a sharp increase in technical data. When using 4 to 1 pixel binning, this camera has a 40 megapixel sensor and takes 10 megapixel selfies. The front camera can also record in 4K on both Samsung devices.

The software functions include Samsung's own portrait mode for the front and rear cameras. The reversing camera can use its time-of-flight sensor for more precise detection of objects and bokeh. Because of these limitations and warnings that come with almost all of the announced new features, it's difficult to say whether Samsung has really gained an advantage over the iPhone.
