iPhone 12: What we * really * want - CNET

In this week's Apple Core roundup, we're putting together our wishlist for iPhone in 2020 based on actual feasibility and analyzing the latest evidence of Apple's vision of a foldable device.

Our iPhone 12 wish list

Foldable or not, it is said that the 2020 iPhones offer many features that Apple users have been waiting for, such as 5G connectivity and a new design. Even before the iPhone 11 was unveiled, rumors about the iPhone 2020 were noticed before September last year.

The rumor mill is coming and going to find out if Touch ID is coming back, how drastic the redesign will be, and whether Apple will finally get rid of the notch. But with the next major launch of the iPhone in a few months, no one knows what features they will have, and there is still time to make our wishes known.

Here are some of the features our publishers want to see on the next iPhone:

  • Full screen : For the notch to go away, Apple must first figure out how to place the Face ID camera modules under the screen. This may not be the case this year.
  • Screen 90 Hz: These high frequency refresh screens were popular on Android phones (think OnePlus 7 Pro and Pixel 4 ) and make the viewing experience great fluid for games and scrolling through the menus.
  • Touch ID on the screen : Face ID isn't going anywhere and we wouldn't want it. Another form of biometric authentication would also be welcome. Apple is rumored to be working on a Touch ID 2.0 for the iPhone, but Ming Chi Quo, a longtime Apple analyst, seems to believe that this won't happen until 2021.
  • Vertical mode for video : Newer Samsung and LG phones have bokeh effects for video recording, but are not perfect. With rumors of a new time-of-flight camera, Apple may soon sting this feature in high-end models of the iPhone 12.
  • No more basic memory : all these 4K normal and portrait videos take up a lot of space. For Apple, it makes sense to increase the basic storage on the next iPhone to at least 128 GB or the free iCloud storage to just over 5 GB.
  • Reverse Wireless Charging : Another feature that the iPhone 12 could borrow from the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Note 10 is the ability to use other devices on the back of the phone such as the AirPods or the Apple Watch .
  • Better battery life : Before entering the battery properties, you can extend the battery life. Every year they seem to last a little longer, but there is still room for improvement when it comes to the battery.

If we really wanted to shoot the stars, we could also ask for long-distance wireless charging, holograms, and flip screens, but for now we're going to limit our list to the possibility.

Apple receives another foldable iPhone patent

This month, Apple received a new patent for a flexible screen mechanism that protects a screen from folding when it opens and closes. This error has been widely criticized in the Galaxy Fold . According to the patent , Apple's mechanism would prevent folding by leaving more space between the two screen fields when folding.

However, a patent does not guarantee a product, and Apple stands behind its competitors when it comes to the trend towards folding phones. For example, Motorola's new Razr was launched this week and Samsung will launch its second foldable Galaxy phone , the Galaxy Z Flip , at Samsung Unpacked on February 11th .

Over the past 10 years, Apple has with the US Patent and Trademark Office numerous patents for the folding of devices from iPhones to iMacs logged in , and we have seen no products. Most of these patents are reminiscent of the folding phone designs we've seen on the market, while others seem completely bizarre. A patent discovered by My Smart Price in late 2018 shows a flexible device with an enveloping screen that can "origami" in different ways.

Even so, these patents indicate that Apple is still at an early stage of development and that the company is unlikely to have it ready for release in 2020.
